Among current challenges of peacekeeping operations also lie important opportunities. The New Horizon non-paper issued by the United Nations in 2009 called for a renewed peacekeeping partnership to help UN peacekeeping meet the challenges of today and tomorrow. A New Horizon for Peace Operations Partnerships – What are the Next Steps? was the theme of the Challenges Forum 2009, hosted by the Permanent Missions of Pakistan and Sweden to the United Nations. The Challenges Forum 2009 generated an intensive dialogue aimed at moving forward some of the New Horizon recommendations and put forward a number of recommendations for solutions to current complexities.
