Meeting the Challenges of Peace Operations in the 21st Century
The 16th International Challenges Seminar; “Meeting the Challenges of Peace Operations in the 21st Century” was hosted by the Ministry of Defence of the United Kingdom at the Defence Academy in Shrivenham, 1-6 March 2005.
The Shrivenham Seminar was dedicated to the challenges of current peace operations building on the recently launched United Nations High Level Panel on Threats, Challenges and Change Report recommendations to improve peace operations. The seminar sessions focused in particular on the European Union’s contribution to peace operations and the African peace and security architecture and the African Stand-by Force Concept.
Following the one-day seminar participants took part in thematic workshops discussing four major topics: Building African Capacity for Peace Operations, Building Security Sector Reform into Peace Operations, Improving the United Nations Capacity for Peacebuilding and Ethics in Peace Operations.
