UN Senior Mission Leaders Course hosted by Challenges Forum Partner in Beijing

The 24th UN Senior Mission Leaders’ (SML) Course was held in Beijing by the Challenges Forum Partner, the Peacekeeping Centre of the Ministry of National Defence of China, and the Integrated Training Service of UN Department for Peacekeeping Operations between 6-17 June 2016.

The course was opened by the Under-Secretary-General for UN Peacekeeping Mr Hervé Ladsous and the Director of the Peacekeeping Centre, Sen. Col. Zhe Zhou. 26 potential UN senior leaders participated in the mentored  training programme, which covers a range of modules necessary for good UN senior leadership including mission planning and crisis management. Once again, the Challenges Forum handbook Considerations for Mission Leadership in UN Peacekeeping Operations was used as one of the texts for the course. Since the first UN SML was held in 2005 in Abuja by our Nigerian Partner, the National Defence College, Challenges Forum Senior Adviser General Robert Gordon has been and continues to be the lead mentor for the UN SML programme.
